WELL, the first week of winter semester is over- 12 more weeks (and finals!) to go- not that I’m counting down or anything. The truth is, I love this part of term the most. I know I have all this work left to do, but I have all the potential in the world to be kick ass and do amazingly well. I like that I get to start over every 13 weeks and improve on whatever I didn’t do so great on last time around. I love my renewed sense of motivation, despite being sad that holiday break is over.
Honestly, the end of last semester seriously didn’t go so well. I blame being sick… It ruined my motivation, my willpower to get any work done, and in the end my ability to go to my finals in a state that allowed me to succeed. The work I put in throughout the 13 weeks kind of went down the drain in the last two- even after I got back A grade papers just before final exams.
But a new year, a new semester, a fresh start! I’m trying to organize my work better, stay more on top of my homework (fingers crossed on that one) and find more enjoyment in my courses so that I procrastinate my work less. Plus, CASA Cares will be hosting the 10th annual Fashion Show in support of the Montreal Children’s Hospital in March- I’m SO excited to make this event the biggest it has ever been, and just to see our whole team come together and raise a TON of money for one  crazy awesome charity.
I have a lot to look forward to right here at home (my mind likes to wander to distant countries more often these days, it’s been too long since I’ve been on a plane!) and I’m thankful for that. There isn’t a whole lot happening every day, but I’m finding more time to fall back in love with reading, to listen to music louder, to sleep better, and to work on myself a little bit.
And that’s about all that’s going on over here. I’ve been lacking blogging inspiration, but where my writing is lacking, my reading has picked up (finally!). As long as I’m not doing one, I hope to be doing the other… A subconscious goal I’ve picked up so far this year is to constantly find time for the things I love, and I truly hope that doesn’t change as the semester wears on.
Other than that, this weekend I plan on enjoying some wonderful time with family (my nephew will be sleeping over Friday AND Saturday night), friends (belated Christmas dinner/gifts with some girlfriends) & maybe do a little bit of homework. There still isn’t a whole lot of stress, but I’d love to keep it like that for as long as possible!
Hope you all have a great weekend

Going back to school was something I either really looked forward to or dreaded. It was usually easier for me to look forward to it after a summer break rather than a holiday break, because holiday breaks never felt long enough to me and you weren’t going back to class in good weather. In summer, it was easier for me to go back to school, because the weather just made my morale shoot up about 100 levels. I loved walking around campus when it was warm and felt nice on my skin. Not so much when it was freezing cold and I had to walk long distances. But, I’m so glad that you’re looking forward to it, and happy you don’t have to go back feeling sick! I hope you do wonderfully this semester, Melissa. I know you’ve got it in you!
I always hated the first week of classes because I would get so overwhelmed by the syllabi’s. So much work! In so little time! How am I going to do it all?! Somehow, it always got done but I always stressed myself. Here’s to another semester and one where you do not get sick or feel too stressed out! You were on such a roll until you got sick!
Best of luck this semester!
There’s nothing like a new year to make you feel motivated an organised! I always get a crazy need to be organised at the beginning of the year, which is pretty helpful I suppose! Good luck with all your work, you’re sure to be busy by the sounds of it.
It seems our lives are completely in sync – I am struggling to get back in to the routine of working, and starting my teacher training this week, but am relishing the thought of getting a little more organised and sorting my act out a bit!
I hope you get back in to the pre-sickness groove soon!
That charity event sounds amazing – I can’t wait to hear more about it!
I liked the start of a new semester as well. I loved getting the syllabi and planning out my schedule! I am not as excited about the start of CFA studying, but it is going ok so far. I think I’m on week 4 now and it’s going fast. I don’t want to think about how many weeks I have left because it’s a high number, but I know June 1st will come fast (as will the end of your semester).
We can do this!!
