These last two weeks back at school have, predictably, been complete insanity. In between getting back into the swing of schoolwork (3 weeks off may have flown by, but I quickly got used to the lack of homework!) and juggling all my jobs again, life has been nuts. Luckily I’ve been doing well in scheduling in some ‘me-time’ which was severely lacking last semester. My guilt always overshadowed my need to just BE from once in a while. But not this semester. I refuse to burn myself out.

Here’s what’s currently going on in my life since I was last around the blog!

Reading: I am actually on my 6th book of the year (that would be my 6th of the month, too) and I must say I’m really finding my love for literature again. After last summer, my reading speed slowed down and by the time I got sick and got into finals in November, basically completely stopped. Since making the New Year’s Goal to read at least 15 minutes every day, I’ve surpassed it almost each and every day of January.

I’m currently reading a memoir called ‘Brain on Fire’ by Susannah Cahallan. I started it on Saturday and I am completely & utterly captivated by it. It’s the story of a woman who, out of the blue, began to lose her mind until she was admitted to the hospital without any idea what plagued her. She has almost no recollection of her time at the hospital, and so far her telling of her story is both terrifying and completely captivating. It reminds me of all the reasons that I had wanted to pursue Psychology in school for so long.

Watching: I’ve been trying to cut down on the amount of TV I watch, but my favorites these days include; New Girl, Big Bang Theory, Parenthood, Grey’s Anatomy, Top Chef, Happy Endings, and Once Upon a Time. Oh and Community starts back up VERY SOON and I couldn’t be more excited!

On that note, this week’s episode of Top Chef was a HUGE disappointment. SPOILER: I don’t think Kristin deserved to go home. She took full responsibility for the things that went wrong, whereas Josie has been sliding by on consistently less-than-good-quality food. Kristin has been on the top almost since she got on TC, and I think the judges made a very poor call sending her home for simply taking responsibility instead of laying it on everyone else. I’M SO ANGRY ABOUT THIS.

Listening: I’ve been re-visiting one of my high school favorites, All Time Low, since seeing them live last week! I’ve always really enjoyed their upbeat music- it’s nothing crazy life changing, although one of their songs ‘Remember Sunday’ is in my absolute ALL TIME favorite songs ever.

Also currently in my ‘on-repeat’ playlist: Ed Sheeran (was that a surprise?) I’ve been listening to his old EP’s a lot and falling in love with the music he released before he got well known. My favorites include Cold Coffee, Sofa, and Homeless. I’ve also been listening to some Bon Iver and reminiscing about the concert in September. I have a ton of other various artists in the playlist, and I’ve been adding a lot of new stuff in there that drops into my CONFRONT inbox. I love the amount of new music I listen to on a daily basis because of that job!

Needing: A little bit of willpower to really get back into schoolwork. Definitely haven’t found my groove yet. I also need to go to the bank and replace my lost debit card. I currently have no way to pay school fees, bills, or anything, until I find a convenient time to go to my branch and get a new card. This probably  needs to happen sooner rather than later! ALSO needing? More money, please. I want to be able to start saving (as my New Year’s Goals state I should be) but I just can’t quite yet without putting my bills at risk of being late. Blah.

Loving: Things I”m currently loving include sleeping in on my Monday mornings off (I purposely didn’t take a class so that I wouldn’t have to face the “Monday blues” during winter) and also, reading. I love that I’m loving reading again. Hmmm, what else. I’m loving that I have another concert coming up this week, and that I have plans to go out next weekend. I’ve been staying home a lot and feeling down because of the crappy weather, but I need to just suck it up and not act like an 80 year old grandma anymore!

Finally, I’m loving the quality time I’ve been getting with my nephew. That kid is growing up before my eyes, and at 15 months we are the best of friends. He takes my hand to play games and he enlists my help to do silly things whenever we’re together. He insists on taking pictures for Instagram with me, he loves to stay in my arms until I can’t feel them anymore, and overall this is just my favorite age ever. :)

That’s all I’ve got for now! I’m hoping to find some extra time in my schedule this week to catch up with school & to sit down with my goals for the year to see what I can tackle. I’ve been super lazy so far this year and I’d like to make a point of kicking the lazy away (other than Monday morning sleep-ins of course).

What’s currently going on with you?

  1. Oh, that’s such a good idea to not schedule any Monday classes. Mondays are so hard! Yay. I’m so glad to hear you’re making sure to take time for YOU this semester. I know it can get so crazy, but it’s good to schedule time to just be and sit and read. I think it’ll help your stress levels so much!

  2. You definitely need to find the time to just BE – I think it’s fabulous you’re on your 6th book already and the one you’re reading at the moment sounds enthralling xx

  3. I definitely agree that Kristen was the wrong person to go home on Top Chef. BUT, the judges didn’t know that Josie slacked during prep time and forced Kristen to make a decision about the gelatin, so they made the best decision they could with the information at hand. Also, aren’t the judges technically supposed to judge on that week only and not consider any past behavior? I know that’s hard (human nature and all), but if that’s the case, then Josie’s (very dirty) slate is wiped clean each week. That said, I can’t wait for her to get the boot – can’t come soon enough!

  4. You have read a lot this year already! Awesome job with sticking with your goal. That book sounds great!

  5. Ed Sheeran is AMAZING we love him at TeamFab headquarters xx

  6. I was SO pissed that Kristen went home. I wish that others would have spoken up about Josie slacking off during the prep time. I hope that Kristen gets back on the show through last chance kitchen. I was SO HAPPY with this week’s show (won’t say what happened in case you haven’t seen it!).
