Tag!

Earlier this week, Erin tagged me in this fun little question/answer thing, and since I love these kinds of things I just had to participate!

Here are the rules.

  1. You must post these rules.
  2. Each person must post 11 things about themselves on their blog.
  3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
  4. You have to choose 11 people to tag and link them on the post. Go to their page and tell them you have linked him or her.
  5. No tag backs and you legitimately have to tag 11 people.

11 Facts About Myself

1. I have just as many books on my to-read shelf as I do on my ‘read’ shelf
2. If I don’t get 8 hours of sleep, I am almost guaranteed to be cranky
3. I’m addicted to shopping
4. I’m not a big fan of alcohol at all. I’m a social drinker & will have a few drinks when I’m out, but I don’t like spending money on alcohol or the feeling of being really drunk.
5. I have trouble focusing on a task for a long time
6. My room rarely stays clean for more than a few hours. By the time I get to bed, there is something out of place!
7. I don’t have my driver’s license, but I wish I did. I need to make more time for that.
8. I still get really nervous when I interview artists for CONFRONT, but I would never want that feeling to change!
9. I want to do something important in my lifetime, I just don’t know *what* yet.
10. My addiction to Harry Potter has worsened in the last year or so. I like to think for the better though!
11. No matter how hard I try, I don’t think I’ll ever be a “sporty” person. It’s actually a miracle that I enjoy fitness classes!

Erin’s Questions

1.Where is one place (city, state, or country) that you are dying to visit?
- Oh well I just love this question! Currently dying to visit India, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, Italy. I’ll stop there before I get carried away *cough*
2. What is your bed time?
- It depends on how tired I am. Normally between 10pm and midnight otherwise I’m just too cranky the next day. I can’t go to bed too late because I like being up relatively early the next day!
3. What is one resolution or goal you have for 2012?
- I have twelve. :)
4. What would be your last supper?
- This is a nearly impossible question for me to answer because a) I can’t think of *last* anything. That thought terrifies me. Also b) I love food so much I’m not sure if I could choose. HOWEVER, off the top of my head, I’d have a huge breakfast, because that is my favorite. Pancakes, waffles, eggs, toast with nutella/peanut butter/jam, bacon, sausage, you name it. I want it there.
5. If you could eat a meal with one person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
- With a girl, I’d love to sit down with Emma Watson, Zooey Deschanel, Kristen Bell, Blake Lively, Suzanne Collins (the author), Veronica Roth (the author), Sarah Jessica Parker, or Hayley Williams (singer from Paramore).

- With a guy, where on earth do I start? If there was no fear of passing out from sheer nerves, I’d LOVE to sit down with Leonardo DiCaprio, Andrew McMahon (singer for Jack’s Mannequin), Jason Segel, Johnny Cash (that would be my choice for someone who isn’t alive), Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe, Tom Felton, Matthew Lewis (uh yeah, so basically the entire Harry Potter cast?), John Green (author) or Markus Zusak (author). I really had to restrain myself with this list LOL.
6. What is your favorite animal?
- It always changes, to be honest, but I really like birds. I have no idea why.
7. What is your dream job?
- Working at a music label as a recruiter for new talent, working at a publishing house as the person who gets to read incoming manuscripts, or even editing already-known authors’ work.
8. Who is your hero?
- This is going to sound weird, but I don’t think I HAVE one. There isn’t that *one* person that I consider a hero. I am inspired by many people, but I don’t consider any my hero.
9.When you need a snack, do you reach for sweet or salty?
- I try and mix it up a little. I often reach for almonds and cheese, a sweet & salty granola bar, whole wheat toast and peanut butter, crackers and hummus. That kind of thing.
10. Does your style have a signature?
- I don’t think it’s really a *signature* but my good friends are known to see a really awesome shirt and be like “Oh, that’s a Mel shirt”. I rarely wear simple tops- I try and go for really cute and original ones with bold designs. I think if anything THAT would be my signature. I’m bold-top-girl. Ha!
11. What is your favorite book?
- Erin, what are you doing to me?! I don’t think I could choose just ONE even if my life depended on it. I will give you a list of the first five that come to mind instead.
1. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
2. Looking for Alaska by John Green
3. The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffeneger
4. Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult
5. Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

My Questions:

1. Why did you start writing your blog?
2. What’s your favorite part of the day?

6. What is your favorite part of the holidays?

The A-Z of Me!

So everyone is doing it & I finally caved. I have a few extra posts to take up for my month since I’ve been skipping a few, so these last few have really just been for fun. :)

If you do it too, leave me the link so I can check yours out!

B. Bed size: Double
C. Chore that you hate: I run away from dishes and vacuuming. Both at the same time.

E. Essential start to your day: An extra 15 minutes in bed to just wake up, check my e-mails and relax. Once I get up, I feel so much more mellow and happy. I hate rushing out of bed.
F. Favorite color: Purple ever since I can remember When my grandmother used to babysit me when I was 3 years old she got me my special purple towel for after baths. In the last 4-5 years though I’ve really fallen in love with all shades of turquoise, and even painted my room in those colors!
G. Gold or Silver: Silver
H. Height: 5’7″
I. Instruments you play: I’ve learned to play a lot of instruments… Recorder, flute, clarinet and saxophone were the ones I could play best though. I also want to learn the piano REALLY badly. And I’ve always dreamed of playing the violin.

Q. Quote from a movie: Okay this one is tough. But since one of my all time favorite movies is Inception I’ll go with that one. “You mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.” -Eames
R. Right or left handed: Righty!
S. Siblings: One older brother
U. Underwear: Um? Yes?
V. Vegetable you hate: I really dislike cooked celeri… Other than that can’t really think of one!
W. What makes you run late: staying in bed too long :(
X. X-Rays you’ve had: I think only dental
Y. Yummy food that you make: Oh lord, I do not cook nearly enough at this point in my life to answer this question. I make a mean bowl of cereal though. And oatmeal. Actually I guess I can cook pretty elaborate breakfasts if I tried. I love breakfast :)
Z. Zoo animal: Hmmm. I really love giraffes, elephants and zebras. Are those zoo animals? I only ever go to like Parc Safari. Oh well I’m counting it!

Your turn!

50 Questions That Will Free Your Mind: The First 5

There is a famous set of 50 questions circulating the internet called ‘50 Questions That Will Free Your Mind‘ that have no right or wrong answer. It is said that when you complete them, you will know & understand yourself better, and that’s the kind of thing I live to blog about, so I’m going to answer 5 at a time. Here’s the first batch.

1. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?

Sometimes I feel like the biggest part of me will always be a kid. I love kids’ books more than any other kind of literature, I love working with kids and I love playing with them. I think having an imagination is one of the most beautiful things, and I wish that I hadn’t lost that need for free play as I grew older. If I had no idea how old I was, I think I’d be a very confused person because I think there is a little bit of me from every age that I’ve been through still in there somewhere. Some days I still feel like an awkward teen, and some days I feel like I’m finally a mature adult. Most days though, I love just having a good time and laughing and having no boundaries. Part of me hopes I never lose that.

2. Which is worse, failing or never trying?

My first answer is that ‘never trying’ is worse. And it is. I can say that with total conviction, but I can also admit that I’m a hypocrite and I don’t apply this in every part of my life. Because the question doesn’t include ‘rejection’ in it’s possible answers. That is the worst of all.

In general though, I will always give something a shot before saying I hate it. My most recent experience in this is failing a class that as a general rule I hate, and then doing it again. I failed, but at least I tried. And then I tried again. If I fail again… I’ll probably try again. I can’t stand what if’s.

3. If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?

I think some of the days we don’t like to do are just thing we HAVE to do so that we can do the things we love. For example, I may not like the fact that I have to go in to work in 3 hours, but I’ll do it because the money that I make at my job will come with me to Greece, and that’s something that I can’t wait to do and I just know I’ll love. That being said though, I know there are a million other things that we all do every single day that we hate. Cleaning, running errands, going somewhere that you don’t want to go; but I think that ultimately there’s a reason that we do the things we do. If not to please ourselves, then to please the people around us- and isn’t that a source of happiness for yourself too? I know that when I accomplish something that makes a friend or family member appreciative, I’m glad I took the time for it.

So yeah, maybe life is short and I do things I hate, but life is short and the people I truly love won’t be around forever. I want them to be just as happy as me, so I give a little to get a little.

4. When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

This is a tough question because you never know 100% what will happen in the future. There are a lot of things I want to accomplish, and ideally I would do them all. But do I have time? I don’t know. What if something terrible happens tomorrow *knocks on wood*? I can’t predict how my life will go, and maybe I’ll wake up 10 years from now regretful of some of the choices I’ve made. I hope not though, because I’m a strong believer in doing the things that you say you’ll do, to the best of your ability. I’ve said numerous times that I want to travel the entire world, and I know that’s a big thing to say. Hopefully when all is said and done, I’ll have done it way more than I’ll have said it. Only time will tell.

5. What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world?

I could take the selfless route here and say world poverty, hunger or peace, but I think those are just logical things that people say because it’s the right thing to say and feel. And I think most people truly WANT these things. But I digress. If I could choose something besides those very first things that I think of, I would change how the world views money. I wish that certain things didn’t have a price tag on them, like traveling, and experiences of a life time. Everyone should have the opportunity to live the life they want in terms of experiences (not objects, those can continue to cost whatever they cost), but if it were up to me, everyone would have equal opportunities to feel fulfilled and happy about the things they’ve done, without worrying about money at all.

If you decide to answer any of the questions, feel free to send me the link so I can read your answers!

Apparently I’m most like Belle! I’d have to say that’s probably pretty accurate considering we’re both huge book lovers and all that jazz. Second up is Snow White which is fairly accurate I think? I mean, I did dress up as her for Halloween and did a pretty decent job of it!

So which Princess are you most like? Who’s your favorite? I think mine is Ariel! I love mermaids..

This week’s obsessions

I’ve been spending a lot of time at home these last couple of weeks, main for two reasons.

1. My work schedule is so ALL over the place that I’m mostly too tired to go out and be crazy on a regular basis
2. Catching up on me time while I still can! I’ll take advantage now so that I can’t complain when I get super busy & when I go back to school.

Anyway, what this means is that I’ve had time to become obsessive over stuff that usually gets forgotten when I’m at a show every day of the week or when I’m studying/in school.

Obsession Numero Uno:

Felicity. I’m in LOVE with this show all over again. The fact that it ended after four seasons is officially devastating, mostly because I am currently halfway through the fourth season and what the hell am I going to do when I’ve watched the remaining 13 episodes… Which, trust me, is going to be way too soon. Also, I’m actually in love with Noel Crane. I remember this from when I watched this show 10 years ago or whenever it was, but I really need to find myself a guy like this. Can Felicity just realize it already?! God. Although really, I love Ben too. So you know, either way I guess I might be happy for her.

Obsession Number TWO:

Radio music. Seriously, I’ve never listened to so much radio in my life. 98% of the time when I turn on Virgin I love what they’re playing and I’m putting it on my Ipod… which seems really unlike me. Here are some examples of songs that regularly I would not be listening to:

1. Need You Now by Lady Antebellum (this song has grown on me SO much…)
2. California Gurlz by Katy Perry Feat. Snoop Dogg (I hate snoop dogg, but this song… is addictive)
3. Alejandro by Lady Gaga (When this song first came on I thought it was the dumbest song ever… Now, it’s ALWAYS in my head. Always.)
4. Eenie Meenie by Justin Bieber Ft. Sean Kingston (Eenie Meenie Miny Mo Lova, really? But I just can’t stop singing it…)
5. If I Had You by Adam Lambert (Well, he’s kind of awesome, but it doesn’t change the fact that this is always on the radio and always playing on my Ipod.)

Obsession Numero Trois:

Reading. I’m currently reading books faster than I have at any other point in my life. I’m about to finish my 15th book since January… Even last year I think I only read 25 books in an entire year, let alone probably by the end of the summer. Kind of crazy.

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G book. Read this one last week & couldn't put it down until it was done

Obsession Number FOUR:

The sun. I don’t think in all my life have I ever been this tanned before June. In all fairness, it’s not my fault Mother Nature and Global Warming teamed up to give us this amazing 2 extra months of summer… But I just seem to be in the sun every other day… Whether I work or not.

Obsession Number Five:

Probably my most productive obsession at the moment… Saving money. When was the last time I did that? Oh um, when I was like 16. We’ll see how long this one lasts.

My Final Current Obsession:

Something Corporate. I can’t stop listening to them. Why?
Because in 68 days from RIGHT NOW I will be waiting in line to see them.
My mind can’t even fully wrap itself around that fact. I don’t know if I can even remember the last time I was this excited to go see a show. Oh wait, probably the last time I saw Andrew McMahon, 2 years ago.
He’s a music freaking genius.
