Augustana Sang it Best…

If you’ve read a few posts around here at any given time, you’ll know that there are two things I love more than anything else in the world. Music, and traveling. Putting them together? That’s just a bonus! I’m heading to Boston with a good friend of mine today for two days, to see two different concerts, and soak in a little bit of a brand new city.

boston

I’ve never been, but if Augustana’s song ‘Boston’ (a long-time favorite track of mine) tells me anything, it’s that I’m going to love being there.

It’s been a hectic couple weeks as the winter semester comes to an end and finals begin, and I fully plan on enjoying these couple days away, even if I may have some homework to do at the hotel at night. I get to see one of my all-time favorite musicians for the first time since 2011. I’m very lucky that I have had the chance to see him perform live five times since 2008, but it will be the first to see him doing his own thing, rather than with a band. Nonetheless, I’m ridiculously excited for a roadtrip to see Andrew McMahon!

andrew!

We’re also enjoying a spontaneous show by Andy Grammer and Parachute. I hadn’t heard much of either of these bands before planning my trip to Boston, but my friend is a big fan, so we’re making a special evening out of tonight to see them. Should be a good time! I rarely say no to a good show.

I’ll be home late Tuesday night, and hopefully some updates after that about my trip and other random life things. Until then, I’ve put together a playlist if you’re interested in hearing all the bands I’ve mentioned above. A little music for your Sunday.

Have a great weekend!

Sigh No More. [A Mumford Review]

For MONTHS now, I’ve been obsessed with a little band called Mumford & Sons. Their current album has been on repeat on my iTunes for almost a year now, and during my exam finals last semester I spent hours looking up their tour dates, day dreaming of seeing them live.

Last night? I FINALLY did. There are many things I’d like to say about my night, but first of all it’s important to point out that I LEFT MY CAMERA AT HOME and went along on my merry way. Seriously, me. no camera. So ridiculous. So I’d like to thank my friend Agnes who I’ve stolen many photos from and YouTube for all the videos I’ve stolen as well. You’re all a whole lot smarter than I am.

Moving on.

The show opened up with two bands that I had never heard of before and left as a newly converted fan. Apache Relay and Nathaniel Rateliff both put on really great sets and deserved a mention because hello, they opened for Mumford. They’re clearly really amazing. During the last two songs of Nathaniel Rateliff’s set, Marcus Mumford (MARCUS. MUMFORD!) joined the band on stage to sing along, and during the very last song the entire Mumford band joined them on stage. It was a camera-worthy moment.

Mumford & Sons came onstage around 9:15 singing ‘Lover’s Eye’- the first two minutes the entire stadium stayed pitch black. As the song picked up, all the lights went on and the crowd went CRAZY. Their set lasted about an hour and a half; they played almost their entire debut album ‘Sigh No More’ (minus the song SIGH NO MORE. That was a small disappointment)… Luckily the entire record is a favorite song of mine so I was still jumping up and down every time they started a new track & I really don’t think I’ve ever screamed and sang that loud at a show. If I have, it’s been a long LONG time.

Some of my favorite moments? Hard to CHOOSE. I’d have to say that the following songs were incredibly memorable though: Roll Away Your Stone, LITTLE LION MAN and Awake My Soul were by far the most amazing. The Encore was also truly beautiful- After The Storm & The Cave- two of the best songs on the record in my opinion.

Mumford also played a ton of new songs. If you were wondering whether they’d live up to this first album? Don’t even WONDER. I think it’s going to be even better than the first… And that’s honestly saying something. Every new song that they played I was mesmerized, in awe, in a complete trance.

Marcus Mumford’s voice is NOT done justice on the album (which is also saying a lot as it is just wonderful). It is so incredibly unique and just wow. Live? It’s 10 times more powerful and more moving. I have not a single idea how he sings so beautifully. His voice is one of the mysteries of the world and such an honest, raw talent.

Basically, I plan on seeing them live again many, many times.

I’d also like to say that my city is just LOVELY. We all danced our heads off, sang as loud as our voices would allow, shouted until our voices went hoarse, and welcomed that band into our hockey arena with true Montreal chants. The boys even came back during the Encore and put on some HABS hockey jerseys to show their love of our city.

I’m writing this as I listen (and watch) videos on YouTube from last night, and I’m still in just as much shock that it actually happened. I go to a pretty big amount of concerts and I almost always leave the venue on an adrenaline high… But this is just different. I was so entirely blown away by everything. The simple yet gorgeous set, the lights, the VOICE, the instruments… It was a wonderful night overall and I’m so happy that I got to be there for it.

Marcus Mumford, you are welcome back here ANYTIME. I know I’m not alone when I say that you and your band can play Montreal again as soon as you’d like. We miss you already. Also, I love how much you all spoke French. :)

The set, with the beautiful lights hanging over the band (they were all through the stadium as well)… and the camera filming up above was all in beautiful black & white.

Marcus Mumford. <3

The general admission crowd… Well half of it. Sold out show!

Habs jerseys during the Encore to MUCH cheering from the crowd!

What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?!

The famous ‘Search Terms’ post

One of my favorite things to look at when I open WordPress are the search terms that led people to my blog. Mostly they’re pretty accurate, but every once in a while they just make me LAUGH. Recently Erin did a post with some recent search terms on her blog & it reminded me that I’ve been wanting to do something like that too!

So today I’m going to choose 10 search terms and answer them… Because it just looks like a lot of fun.

1) 31 day picture challenge

This is one of my most famous searches on my blog. I did this challenge a while back and it was a TON of fun. I highly recommend you do it as well if you need inspiration. Here are the 31 post prompts and you can look through my 31 posts if you want too! I thought I’d re-share all of that since it seems to be so darn popular around here.

2) Rupert Grint 2011

Oh you want some Rupert Grint? I think I can help you with that. Here are some of my current favorites of him, all courtesy of the Harry Potter people I follow on Tumblr. I may have shown some of these in the past, but no harm in showing them again… :)

3) Someone who inspires you

This is a really common search term on my blog as well. It’s actually one of the prompts for the 31 Day Picture Challenge, and this was my answer when I did it. I still stand by that 100%- Pink is a freaking awesome girl.

But since I’ve already answered it once, I thought I might answer it again because it’s so popular and stuff. Someone who’s currently (and always, really) inspiring me:

Gwen Stefani! Currently the cover of In Style magazine- check it out. Her pictures in it are BEAUTIFUL.

4) Little mermaid feet [also Pocahontas feet shows up a lot]

Okay, this one is just strange. Why are so many people wondering about these girls’ feet? Strangely enough, I know exactly why people are being led to my blog to see the Little Mermaids’ feet, but Pocahontas? I just have no idea what’s so great about her feet.

If you’re curious, the reason this is in my search terms is because this one time, I was watching Little Mermaid with two of my best friends & we felt the need to re-enact the scene where Ariel sees her feet for the first time:

Now we’ve all got feet! So exciting!

But seriously, can someone explain to me why people search this up all the time?!

5) Matthew Lewis shirtless

OKAY first of all, I wish I had a picture of Matthew Lewis shirtless. Stop looking here, girls. I know he’s good looking but he just doesn’t take his shirt off for the camera. Although if I’m missing something please LET ME KNOW. In the mean time, enjoy these. [Swoon.]

6) Dear whoever is reading this

I’d love to know who searches this up and what they expect to find. I’m tempted to Google this myself just to see what on earth they want. Surprisingly, this is really popular.

7) Hogwarts letter

Dear whoever is reading this [see how I did that?]; in case you were wondering, Hogwarts isn’t real. The letter doesn’t exist. Although coincidentally I did just buy the ‘Harry Potter Film Wizardry’ book and they give you a Hogwarts letter in the book. Also a Marauder’s map. Are you jealous yet? This is probably the post that gets everyone here with that search term.

8 ) What I want to be when I grow up

Ah yes, the famous ‘what I want to be when I grow up’ posts are plenty around here. Mostly because I haven’t the slightest clue. When I wrote those posts, there was part I and part II- so if you searched that up and you’re stuck reading this, hopefully those two links will help you out. I think it’s time to re-read those and write a part III!

9) Biggest insecurity

This was another 31 Day Picture Challenge prompt. I still love what I wrote on that day, it still stands true to the way I feel. I think I could push myself a little more now though and say that my biggest insecurity is not only to end up with nothing, but to actually ACHIEVE nothing. The idea of never truly accomplishing one of my goals terrifies me, and it’s something I’ve been thinking about lately because of school.

10) I wish I was better at math

I feel your pain, searchers, trust me. But believe me when I say that you can DEVELOP your math skills. I’m still working on it, but I’ve come further than I even knew I could in math. It’s taken me a few tries, but the B- I got in Calculus this summer proved to me that I can do this when I set my heart to it. You can too!

As a whole,  I’d like to say that clearly my blog is rather popular when it comes to Harry Potter. I don’t mind one bit, but ladies… Show a little Tom Felton love! I mean, Matt and Rupert are my faves too… But look at this cutie:

Okay this post is clearly turning into another Harry Potter post which was clearly not the point, but I guess it proves why so many people come here because of it. Why don’t more people come here because of books? PEOPLE COME HERE FOR THINGS OTHER THAN HARRY POTTER IN THE FUTURE, I swear I talk about a lot of other things!

What are the craziest/funniest/most awesome search terms that have ever been directed to YOUR blog?!

Life & Things

Here’s a list of the first 10 things I can think of worth sharing that’s going on in my life these days.

1. School is becoming a huge issue for me. I have a goal on my 101 list that says ‘pick a program in school & stick with it- and be happy with that choice’ that I have yet to cross off because IT STILL HASN’T HAPPENED. My 1,001 days are trickling away and I still haven’t chosen a program I am happy with. This is basically a post all on it’s own, but I had an epiphany about this earlier today. It wasn’t an epiphany as in “I totally know what I want to do with my life now” but it was the kind where I understood why I didn’t know more about where I’m headed. But more on that at some other point.

2. On a related note, I really wanted to NOT procrastinate this semester but I’ve in fact been procrastinating about 10x more than ever before. Again, this ties into my worldly epiphany. Although knowing me, I’ll have another one of these and change my mind again. I don’t want to think about that just yet.

3. We’re having a bit of an Indian summer here in Montreal and I love it. It got cold and autumn-like for 2 weeks or so, but this week has been sunny and really warm (like summer clothes warm). It’s so great but it’s just stretching out the inevitable fact that my favorite season is basically over, and way too fast at that. On the bright side I love my winter jacket and I’m kind of excited to be wearing it again… But that’s about the extent of my love of Montreal winters.

4. TV season is starting back up and I couldn’t be happier. Not only are all my favorite shows back on, but they’re all very much welcome distractions. This year’s favorites so far:

- Big Bang Theory: the new season is HILARIOUS, but that’s no surprise at all.
- How I Met Your Mother: also really happy at how funny the new season is. I want some resolved issues soon though! I always have too many questions unanswered… and I mean really, it’s been like 7 years. Make something happen!
- Grey’s Anatomy: Well the first episode made me cry, so I know that the show is back with a vengeance. I don’t think there’s been a single episode in at least 2 or 3 seasons where I haven’t at least teared up. This season so far looks reallyyyy good though.
- Desperate Housewives: Apparently this is the last season? Oh well. It’s my guilty pleasure & although it’s a bit dramatic this year I still love it.
- Modern Family: I clearly love sitcoms. But this one is so great… Also another really strong beginning to a show. I was laughing so much!

And a really awesome new show that I’ve added to my list…

- New Girl: The first episode (of a new sitcom, yeah yeah) was AMAZING. Zooey Deschanel is the perfect main character and her three guy roommates are hilarious. I’m pretty excited for this show!

The show has officially been picked up for it’s first full season, hurray!

5. One of my all time favorite bands, Augustana, just broke up. I actually found out as I started drafting this blog post and as I’ve mentioned them many times before (and my ridiculous love for them) I felt it was important to add this in. I am literally devastated by this news… The lead singer has one of the most amazing voices live and on record that I have ever heard. I can only hope that this break-up isn’t the end of his singing career, because he is one of the few people I truly believe were made to do what he does.

6. On a musically related note, here are a few songs I can’t get enough of right now:

- The entire ‘Kill The Lights’ album by The New Cities. Seriously, catchiest synth/electro/pop songs you’ll ever listen to. If you need to just listen to something happy, get this album.
- Gavin DeGraw’s new single ‘Not Over You‘… SO. GOOD.
- Someone Like You by Adele. Which was on my playlist that I posted last weekend, but it is just so amazing.
- Amy, I by Jack’s Mannequin. What a great song off their upcoming album ‘People & Things’. Speaking of which, OCTOBER 4TH. So exciting!

Only 7.99 on iTunes!

October 4th or an album, but WHEN will I be seeing this man live again?! Seriously my music idol.

7.  Early next week I’m going to this really cool book convention thing for HarperCollins. They host ‘fall previews’ each year for staff members in big cities and show you what’s coming and give you some good books to read. So cool! I’m going with a bunch of work people, plus the one other book convention I went to was totally awesome and wasn’t even the kind of books I READ.

8. I am currently writing this blog post as I procrastinate writing an English paper. I just don’t want to do it. I feel awful though because I should just get it done and move on to other homework. I’m being so last minute it’s beyond ridiculous.

9. I’m going to be an aunt anywhere between right now and a month from now. The baby is due on October 24th or something like that. ANY DAY NOW. SO EXCITING.

10. I went to The New Cities’ album launch this past Monday night and it was a really great experience. If you’ve read through my archives you’ll know that I’ve seen this band from the time that they were struggling to get their music heard, and now they’ve just released their second album on a major label. It’s so crazy how proud I am of them and seeing them on Monday for the first time in just over a year was really emotional for me. It’s a bit insane, but I’ve now seen them over 40 times. That’s what happens with local bands! I also somehow talked my manager into finding a way to carry their CD at my work which has never happened before. He was super excited to support a local band & I’m really excited to sell the record!

The four of us at the album launch, photo courtesy of Vanessa Leclair.

Jenia & I before the show started. 4 years & 40 shows with this girl (and another one who’s currently in Vancouver!) It’s been a crazy, crazy 4 years. But so amazing.

Well this was an incredibly random post filled with a heck of a lot of rambling, but I needed to just write whatever came to mind. It’s been a while since I just let my mind exhale a little bit. Maybe now I’ll be able to focus on this paper of mine.

Tell me, how’s your life been right now? What’s going on with you?!

And the postcards’ gonna read…

It’s no secret that the love of my life comes in the form of a band called Jack’s Mannequin, but maybe more specifically a musician in particular called Andrew McMahon. His natural talent has had me swooning over his music (and maybe him, yeah, I know he’s married!) ever since I was 14 years old, and I haven’t looked back.

So naturally any weekend of mine that includes even just a little bit of him from a distance is considered to be pretty fantastic, thank you very much.

You see, Andrew and his bands (Something Corporate, Jack’s Mannequin) did not come to Montreal before July 2008. That was the first time I saw him, and then I saw him again in August 2008 and then again in November 2008. He was obviously making up for lost time.

Last summer, I saw him perform with Something Corporate… A teenage dream of mine come true.

And last night I got to see him perform as Jack’s Mannequin again for the first time since November 2008. It was short, and it was the 2nd furthest I’ve ever been from him while he performed on stage. All I wanted to do was jump over the seats and sing my heart out front row with my best friends. But instead we were all separated in the stadiums’ seats.

I always feel like when I see him play live, there isn’t enough time for me to soak up his energy, his music, his talent. I am constantly trying to get closer, make my brain take in every little detail of what he does at that piano of his. The way his seat always falls backwards when he gets up for a really intense part, the way he dances around during two or three of the songs and jumps all over the keys.

The show was expensive, it was short, and I got the wrong side to see him play, but it was somehow still just what I needed. I’ve said this for other bands but I don’t think I understood it until I saw Jack’s Mannequin live back in July 2008. Every time I see them play, it’s like falling in love all over again. I can’t stop listening to the music now, even though every song has been drastically overplayed on my iTunes. But I don’t care. Love is love, no matter what shape it comes in, right?

I can’t wait to get my tattoo to prove it forever. But that’s for another post.

Hanging out at dinner, taking weird pictures. That’s just what we do.

We were fifth row in a stadium that fits just over 21,000 people. Pretty close, considering! I seriously missed seeing this band.

Hanging out on his piano!

It’s love.

And how was your weekend? Any fun July 1st or July 4th celebrations?!

Weekends and Concerts

Well the weekend is over & although it was partially uneventful (work) I did a few fun things worth sharing:

Saturday: After work my mom picked me up and we drove an hour and a half up to my sister-in-law’s uncle’s house for a huge family dinner party. Her aunt is a professional chef and had this AMAZING dinner planned for 30+ people, and it most certainly did not disappoint. It was also a 4-person birthday party, so there was lots of wine, gifts, chocolate cake and good times. Best part? The table was literally neverending, so the adults were curious how the game ‘broken telephone’ would work out… So we played a couple rounds and died of laughter. Someone’s 2 sentences turned into 3 words, and so on. It’s hilarious how easily amused adults can be sometimes when a little bit of alcohol is involved.

Sunday: My day was fairly uneventful, but at night I headed downtown with my friend Mel and we met up with a bunch of our friends for the Augustana concert.

I don’t even know what I could possibly say to do justice to this band. The first time I saw them live was in 2006 opening up for Snow Patrol and I had NO clue who they were, but I completely fell in love with them. Dan Layus has one of the most gorgeous voices live that I have EVER seen. Almost 5 years later and I literally could not soak up enough of the band on-stage. I wanted to record all of it so I didn’t forget, but I wanted to enjoy it, but I wanted to take pictures… I was very overwhelmed to say the least. I can’t tell you all enough to GO LISTEN TO THIS BAND and go see them live if you get the chance. It’s one of those concerts that you can be standing anywhere and it just doesn’t matter- everyone gets completely lost in the music.

Me & Jenn <3

Mel Squared. Ha!

Dan Layus. Hands down one of the best voices… Ever.

Chloe & I were VERY excited after Augustana’s set. Yay!

After Augustana, the co-headlining band, The Maine, performed for about an hour and I was actually really impressed. They were a TON of fun and the lead singer was really great with the crowd. They sing really fun, dancy, summer kind of music. Check them out:

Basically, I need more concerts in my life. I wish I could go to every single one because there are so many good shows coming to Montreal.

So how was your weekend? Are you going to any concerts this summer?!

More (fun/happy/inspirational) things worth sharing

I’ve recently discovered the amazingness that is StumbleUpon. I knew that it existed since forever, but I just recently started stumbling myself, and I swear it’s the most addictive thing ever.

Not to mention how much fun it is to discover all these amazing pictures, websites, songs, quotes, recipes, etc.

Here are a few things that I’ve been looking from the site so far:

1. www.oneword.com

The concept is awesome. If you’ve got writer’s block, go to this website and click ‘go’. They give you one word, and you have sixty seconds to just write, without thinking.

2. Pictures of a lot of books

I believe this is the Stockholm library, and I want to go visit it. It looks like the most endless amount of books ever and I just love it.

3. This place called Salar De’Uyuni in Bolivia. During the rainy season, the water turns into the world’s largest mirror and gives you the impression that you’re walking into this infinite space. It’s apparently also called the border between Heaven & Earth (which is very poetic, but it’s the images that really got me)

I want to go here ASAP and have a picture taken of me like this.

4. This picture/recipe for Warm Toasted Marshmallow S’mores Bars. Cue mouth-drooling… and here you go.

5. The movie trailer for 50/50 starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Seth Rogen (I swear its like StumbleUpon KNOWS me.)… Watch it here! Basically Joseph Gordon-Levitt is one of the loves of my life and all his movies always look amazing. And I love that StumbleUpon showed me this.

Do you use StumbleUpon?

Movie Review- POTC: On Stranger Tides

A couple days ago I went to see YET another movie in theaters, Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides. I promise I won’t spoil anything if you’re still going to see it, but there were a few scenes I adored and will be sharing. You’ve been warned.

Here are a few things I loved about the movie:

- Jack Sparrow AKA Johnny Depp. He’s honestly the reason this movie was so awesome. He’s the reason they’re all successful, to be honest. He plays Captain Jack SO well. I mean, can you think of a single other pirate who’s actually charming?

- The new Orlando Bloom/Keira Knightley. Meet Sam Clafin & french actress Astrid Berges-Frisbey:

Not only is Sam like… super good looking & shirtless for a good part of the movie, but THERE ARE MERMAIDS IN THIS MOVIE. MERMAIDS. I’m pretty sure the scene where you meet Astrid AKA Serena the mermaid, is like one of my favorite movie scenes ever. There is LEGITIMATELY a mermaid fight scene. That sounds really cheesy but it’s like the coolest thing ever. I’d go see the movie again just for those 15 minutes.

- Captain Hector Barbosa. If you watch the movies, you know who this guy is. And he’s back in this movie, in a big way. He’s like the coolest looking pirate ever (besides Jack Sparrow). Also? His wooden leg uncaps and he stores booze in it. How pirate-y of him!

Things I didn’t like too much in the movie:

- The ending left me really confused. Is there going to be ANOTHER one? Are they ever going to end the POTC franchise? I’m really not sure. I could have sworn I read that Johnny Depp was no longer going to do any more, but the closing scene is totally an open ended thing.

- I’m not Penelope Cruz’ biggest fan and she’s a major character in this movie too. I still don’t understand if she’s a good guy or a bad guy. She is pretty hilarious though, but I miss Keira Knightley and the old POTC crew.

Overall though, I still totally love these movies & I think you should go see it. It’s not only bad ass and has tons of cool effects (AND MERMAIDS) but it’s pretty hilarious. Also? Johnny Depp. That’s all you need to know.

Hellooo!

Vanity Fair. Hi. Okay I’m done I swear.

Sleepy Sunday

Okay so… I seem to have forgotten to blog these last few days. That’s not cool. I blame overall hectic-ness of life.

Here are a few things about my weekend:

1. Friday night, Jenia & I decided we needed a girls’ night (which consists of eating  a lot and playing video games. We may as well have called it guys’ night?) but it was a ton of fun! After work I headed over to her place and we went to the second hand bookstore down the street. The man who owns it is the coolest, even though he asked me in the creepiest voice ever if I wanted to go visit his basement. He meant well though, he’s got HUNDREDS of books stored there. I ended up leaving with 20 dollars less in my pocket but 4 awesome books. I probably need to stop buying & just freeze time to read faster!

Afterwards we went back to my house, ordered an amazing ton of Greek food (GREEK SALAD yum!) and played Wii Mario Kart for like 3 hours, followed by Mario Party for Wii. Time just flew by, and before I knew it, it was time for sleep.

2. Saturday I had to wake up super early for work, which sucked. My day went by incredibly fast though, and I came home and caught up with some TV shows that I didn’t have time to watch this week! It was a quiet night in but I don’t mind having those, I constantly feel like I have a million things to do anyway.

3. One of my catch-up TV shows was Grey’s Anatomy and I just want to say that (to whoever watches) Callie & Arizona are the CUTEST thing ever. And I’m also totally in love with a combination of Mark Sloan & Derek Shepard. I mean seriously, not only are they good looking but they’re both gonna be daddies! Cute!

4. Today (Sunday) I woke up even EARLIER to go to work. It was a super intense work day, we had lots of moving around to do… I went to work out of uniform and lifted boxes all day. Basically, I worked out for like 8 hours and now I can’t move. I feel broken.

5. I may also fall asleep at my keyboard… and I have to wake up EVEN EARLIER for work tomorrow. 4:30AM alarm? Anyone? No? Okay fine.

6. I got home from work around 3:30, just in time for Mother’s Day brunch with the family! Although I was super exhausted, I got to have breakfast at 4pm with everyone, I gave Mama Day cards to my mom, my sister-in-law and her mom. I loved the ‘mommy-to-be’ card I picked out, I still get super giddy whenever I think about becoming an auntie in 5 months! In 4 weeks we’ll be finding out whether it’s a boy or a girl. My mom thinks it’s a girl, my sis-in-law’s mom thinks it’s a boy. I’m honestly SO excited to find out. And more excited to meet him/her!

7. My Calculus teacher gave us 3 days to complete 2 full assignments (instead of the 7 days we SHOULD get). This should begin to tell you how incompetent he is. I can’t believe I’m stuck with the WORST teacher in my whole University career for a class I have to re-take. I mean really, world? REALLY? I just want to do well.

8. Now I have to go finish assignment #2 before I legitimately fall asleep on my desk. I have to be awake in 8 hours.

Hope your weekends have been more relaxing and peaceful than mine! Do anything fun?

Books/Shows/Weekends/Friends

These last two weeks have been a mix of tons of fun and tons of… not fun. Since I still don’t have a camera, I haven’t really been able to update on things that I’ve been up to, but now that I’ve stolen pictures from all my friends it’s time to re-cap the last little bit of my life!

First of all, it was one of my closest friends’ birthday last weekend, and despite being trapped in a 12 hour Calculus tutorial on Saturday & Sunday, I still managed to see her twice and celebrate her twenty two years of existence!

On the Friday night, I joined her and a few other friends for dinner at l’Academie, a restaurant that’s really been growing on me each time I go. Soso yummy! It’s only now that I look back on that night that I realize I didn’t even get a picture with the birthday girl, but I snuck into a few others…

K & I! I really don’t see this girl enough. At least we’ve got 3 weeks in Greece this summer to look forward to!

Me & Lis before everyone arrived, not sure what my hand is doing… but otherwise I think we look nice!

On Sunday night after all the math was finished, I got together with the girls for a quiet night in. We were GOING to watch a movie and eat tons of food, but we ended up staying in K’s kitchen for almost 5 hours talking. It’s what we do best. Oh and of course we blew out some birthday candles!

Me and the ladies! We’re going to look so fabulous in our pictures for Greece, let me tell you.

What else? Well I’m not doing very well in my goals at the moment. School was definitely taking a priority last week, but this week not so much. I tried to not watch any new TV shows until the end of April, but it’s such a good way to just relax and not think about the stress in life.

So I got into this new show called The Event starring Jason Ritter (AKA the new love in my life since I saw his adorableness on Parenthood!)

I’m totally addicted to this show, which is still in it’s first season. I’m about 12 episodes in (I know, how sad right? It’s been less than 2 days!) and it’s soso addictive. I’m not a huge science fiction READER, but I love these kinds of TV shows. It’s basically a mixture of Lost/24/The 4400 (did anyone watch that?) and I don’t know, like Heroes maybe too. It’s aliens meets the government meets conspiracy theories meets awesome. I’m obsessed.

In other TV news, I’m now completely obsessed with watching Ellen DeGeneres videos on youtube. She always posts the ‘best of’ from her show, and I have this compulsive need to watch all of them! Ellen is seriously amazing, I’ve always loved her but lately it’s just been this strange addiction of mine. I wish I had cable to watch her actual talk show… Soon I hope!

My current favorite Ellen video is the one she posted about her “cameo” in the latest Harry Potter movie. She seriously kills me!

And finally, I’ve been trying to read lots still- I haven’t been reading quite as fast as last month because I have been SORT OF doing school work, but the last two books I finished were by one of my new favorite authors, John Green. The latest of his work is something he co-wrote with David Levithan (Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist) and it’s called Will Grayson: Will Grayson. It was actually quite good, though not my favorite of his stuff. I did read it in about 3 days though, after finishing his 3 other books that I absolutely ADORED. Do read them! I just ordered the last of his books off Amazon yesterday and I’m very excited to get to it.

All of his books so far are from the perspective of boys, which might be one of the things I love most. That being said, he had this live youtube session on Friday and read the first chapter of his new book which is from the perspective of a girl, and I’m even MORE excited about that! My favorite so far is definitely Looking for Alaska, but the other two, Paper Towns & Abundance of Katherines are tied at a close second. John Green also tweets, has a cool looking website, does great youtube videos with his brother where they basically send each other a 4 minute video once? twice? a week to stay in touch.

Here’s one of his recent clips to his brother Hank, and he’s kind of hilarious. Also a bit insane but it’s hard not to love it.

And THAT’S all I’ve got going on for now!

For real, it’s time to start studying for my math final which is in T-Minus… 4 days. Oh God.
