June Things

summerlovin

My summer is shaping up to be a seriously whirlwind three months of fun times, concerts, road trips, and travels. I’ve been missing the regularity of blogging in my life, but sometimes when you’re busy living, it’s hard to sit down and find the time to write about it.

That being said, I’d like to try and get back into some kind of more regular schedule; for me, my writing, and for the sake of the things that I love accomplishing through this space!

June Goals

I’ve been severely neglecting my goals for 2013, which I had put a lot of time into coming up with. Here are a few things I would like to re-focus on this month:

1) Get back into reading- my reading has really been suffering because I’ve just been immersing myself into my work so much. I need to remind myself that it’s okay to step back and take time for ME. I’d love to read four books this month! One a week seems completely manageable in my schedule.

2) Complete Confront Magazine’s server switch- This is a pretty specific goal on my list that I’ve been working really hard on, but I’ve kind of lost my steam on this because I have NO idea how FTP works or how to ensure everything is being transferred accordingly. I’ve made great progress & it’s time to finish up!

3) Start eating healthier & exercising- I’ve been putting this off forever because I’m lazy, and I haven’t been grocery shopping with my mom to make sure she gets the healthy foods I enjoy. I’ve been feeling not-amazing lately because of it, but I want to feel GREAT by the time I get to my cruise in August. Time to start working my way back to my healthy goal weight.

Looking Forward To…

- So many concerts! Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes on June 12th, Groenland/We Are The City on June 13th, Ed Sheeran/Taylor Swift on June 15th, and potentially a couple more as coverage for Confront Magazine.

- A long-weekend in Toronto with one of my best friends for the Ed Sheeran/TSwift show. We bought our tickets something like 6 months ago, and now the show is just two weeks away! We’re also sticking around for the MuchMusic Video Awards, and are planning a fun evening at the red carpet event, as well as some wandering around in TO- one of my favorite Canadian cities.

- Some beautiful summer weather, afternoons spent enjoying the sun with a good book, and quality time with friends. June is all about getting into the summer months, and I want to fully enjoy it with friends & family.

Looking Forward

I’m stealing this post idea from the wonderful Lisa today. I always love reading these, and while I’m studying for finals I thought I might need a little bit of motivation for a last little push to the summer!

Today: I’m looking forward to a lunch date with a friend, and getting out of the house to study for a little bit. I may take a break and run a few errands, just to clear my head, too. I’ve never really gotten the hang of disciplined studying (especially when I am at home) so I think getting up early and having a few things planned will help out. Plus, by the time I go sleep tomorrow, I will have completed another year of University. Hurray!

This Week: Being done with finals is the main thing I am excited about this week for SURE. Unfortunately, summer school is just days away, which means spending many warm evenings cooped up in the building. Luckily I don’t mind spending time at school anymore, but I’d still prefer spending those extra hours reading under the stars.

This Month: Well, the month is basically over! But between the last few days of April and the first week of May, I have tons to look forward to. I got a very last minute ticket to see The Lumineers on May 1st, which is a concert I had been crossing my fingers to get a ticket to since it sold out within about 3 minutes the first time around! I’m also going up North next weekend and we have a huge end of semester party the day before we leave. It’s definitely bittersweet, ending off such a great year, but everyone will definitely make the best of it!

This Year: Slowly, plans are coming together for the second half of 2013. I’ll be going to Toronto in June to see Ed Sheeran & Taylor Swift, and I recently picked up a ticket to see Andrew McMahon (again!) in Toronto in early July. My birthday is two days later, my nephew’s baptism is at the end of July, and in August I’ll be spending a week in Miami with my family! I’m also trying to plan another week of travels right after Miami, right before going back to school in September. Lots of little trips- no Brazil/Europe craziness like last year- but I’m still excited to kick back and enjoy the sunshine for a few months, packed in with a bunch of concerts!

What are you looking forward to?

Thank God I’m Leaving the Country in 2013

wander

My biggest *fear* of 2013 was that I wouldn’t get to leave the country and do anything exciting after all the money I spent traveling last year. I’ve been in a travel daze for 6 straight months, getting lost in books about faraway countries & wandering the travel department of the bookstore, planning itineraries in countries I’d like to one day visit.

In the last year and a half of my life, I’ve visited places around the world that I have dreamed of all my life. I spent more money than I had, but it’s been beyond worth it. I’ve caught a travel bug! I’ve been thinking of ways to make 2013 a travel year in its own way, even if it won’t be to more distant lands of my dreams. I’ve said many times that I want to travel the whole world, and that includes some smaller places too.

This year, it’s going to be about making the best of smaller opportunities. So far, I’ve got four cities lined up between March and August, and something tells me I’m not done for 2013 yet!

March- New York City

I’ll be booking 3 nights and 4 days in a city that I’ve been in love with for years. I’ve been twice, but the last time I properly visited was in 2008. In September 2012 I stopped in for one day to see a concert (which was amazing!) but it’s time I go back and spend quality time in Manhattan with some good friends. It’s in the middle of semester, I can’t really afford a trip in a month, but I miss the feeling of packing a bag and being in a new place- even for just a few days. This is a VERY  needed getaway!

manhattan

April- Boston

I think I mentioned this a couple weeks ago, but I’ll be heading to Boston in early April to see Andrew McMahon in concert! He is one of my absolutely favorite musicians, and I haven’t seen him live in 3 years now. A week or so ago, we also added a second concert to our trip (the night before Andrew’s), so I’ll be trying to soak in a little bit of Boston for the first time as well as two shows! I don’t know either of the artists I’m seeing on the first night (Andy Grammer and Parachute) but I’ll get to know them before then. I love roadtrips for concerts, so this is bound to be a really great few days out of the city before finals hit hard.

boston

June- Toronto

A city I’ve been to many times, it’s been YEARS since I’ve had the chance to hop a bus and go back to visit. So far, my only big plan is to see Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift, but it’s a whole weekend of music events when we’re there, so my friends and I will probably make an adventure out of it. This trip isn’t very far from home, but I’m particularly excited because so many of my favorite things will be happening all at once. Music, traveling, and adventures with friends!

T

 August- MIAMI!

Last year, I went to Brazil with my mom, sister-in-law, baby nephew, and brother. We traveled 24 hours there and back, hung out with family at the beach, and I got to soak in an entirely new culture that I fell immediately in love with. It was a super unexpected trip, and one that I won’t forget anytime soon. I didn’t grow up with many family vacations (in fact my last one was when I was 13, and I can’t even remember before that if I ever had one?!), but it looks like it may be becoming a spontaneous tradition of sorts since my nephew has been born.

Earlier this week we booked an apartment in Miami all together once again for one week! It’s not so far from home, but it’s a beautiful city that I’ve never been to (other than plane layovers) so I’m excited to explore the beaches, enjoy some cheap shopping, and just get away for a week with my family. I can’t quite explain how amazing it was to spend 3 weeks in Brazil last year with some of the most important people in my life, it was at times frustrating and confining, but mostly it was wonderful, rewarding, and I loved waking up everyday so far away with the inability to be truly homesick. I can’t WAIT!

miami

August is usually the month I like to travel in, so who knows if I go straight home after Miami? A week is certainly not my usual norm for being away from home, and I think I’m going to look into doing something else from there. But who knows?! Right now, I’m just thrilled to have adventures to look forward to almost every month for the next little while. The anticipation of a trip is almost as great as the trip itself!

Where are you traveling to this year?!

Five Songs That Changed My Life {1}

thewayiseeit

This is the first post in my brand new feature ‘Five Songs That Changed My Life’. Interested in participating? Leave a comment below, or e-mail me at mliss024[at]gmail[dot]com. New posts will be up every Friday for as long as I have people interested in participating :)

I thought it was only fit to start my blog feature by talking about the music that has changed MY life. I am a music junkie at heart, and without music in my life? I don’t know where I would be. Here is a little bit about the music that has changed my life.

—–

We all have those songs that have impacted our lives in some way. There are many tracks that remind me of the exact moment I fell in love with a band; others have stayed with me because I listened to them on repeat while I traveled. Whatever the moment, the song stuck, and that’s what matters.

Choosing only 5 songs is nearly impossible for me. I think for each era of my life, a new set of 5 songs emerge and they begin to shape the person I am, and that I’m becoming. I have such an intense love for the songs that I had on repeat in high school, but they haven’t all necessarily stood the true test of time, I don’t still listen to ALL those bands, despite the fact that at one point or another, I couldn’t get enough of them.

There are more than five songs that have changed my life. Many, many more. Today, I’m going to share the five that I still listen to and love as much as the first day I heard them.

1) I Woke Up in a Car by Something Corporate

The first band (and musician) that I remember loving so much, it physically hurt. I was 14, in my room with this album, and this song is just the one that has always stood out for me most. 8 years later (two years ago) I got to see this band live during their reunion tour, and still to this day, Andrew McMahon is my absolute favorite singer/songwriter. He not only inspired my love for music and my appreciation for songwriting, he is a big reason I pursued my passion when I felt like I had no direction in life.

2) The Middle by Jimmy Eat World

I discovered this song in high school, not knowing what a big impact this band would have on me for years to come. Not only are JEW still together making wonderful music, they are a band that I rely on to get me through tough days, much in the same way that I rely on some of my best friends. Their song ’23′ is the anthem to my current twenty-third year. Their concerts have changed my life! They are absolutely on my “must interview” list for CONFRONT Magazine.

3) Hum Hallelujah by Fall Out Boy

I’ve been a fan of Fall Out Boy since high school and their ‘From Under the Cork Tree’ album- any of those songs could have easily made this list- but it was ‘Hum Hallelujah’ that inspired my very first blog. The title of that blog was “I could write it better than you ever felt it”, lyrics from that song. I’ve always taken a deeper meaning from this particular track, and I always thank it for giving me the courage to start writing my life out in the open, something that would eventually change my life.

4) Old School by Hedley

This track just coincidentally began playing as I started writing this. This band’s first album is by far one of the most influential in my life, and it is because of them and their countless concerts that I have some of my best friends today. The day that they played a stadium show in Montreal for the first time ever, my friends and I stood up to this song, linked arms, swayed, and there were definitely some tears as we sang along. This band has seen me grow up, and the concert experiences I’ve had because of them are still my most memorable from when I was 18-21 years old.

5) Give Me Love by Ed Sheeran

The only song on this list that comes from an artist I haven’t listened to since a teenager, but I think it’s fair to say that Ed Sheeran has gained his place in life changing moments. I discovered his music because Rupert Grint from Harry Potter was in his music video. This isn’t that song, but since then, almost two years ago now, I have had his music on repeat. This is the song that he opened with both times I’ve seen him live, and it is spectacular. It’s also my favorite from his album.

Beyond just this song though, I have grown as a music writer because of Ed Sheeran. His music has been with me in some of the craziest years of my LIFE. University, my job at CONFRONT as an editor, all the crazy days where I almost went insane… His music has just *been* there. I can’t wait to road trip to Toronto in June and see him live for the third time. He is one hell of a musician, and this song is just the start of it.

These last two weeks back at school have, predictably, been complete insanity. In between getting back into the swing of schoolwork (3 weeks off may have flown by, but I quickly got used to the lack of homework!) and juggling all my jobs again, life has been nuts. Luckily I’ve been doing well in scheduling in some ‘me-time’ which was severely lacking last semester. My guilt always overshadowed my need to just BE from once in a while. But not this semester. I refuse to burn myself out.

Here’s what’s currently going on in my life since I was last around the blog!

Reading: I am actually on my 6th book of the year (that would be my 6th of the month, too) and I must say I’m really finding my love for literature again. After last summer, my reading speed slowed down and by the time I got sick and got into finals in November, basically completely stopped. Since making the New Year’s Goal to read at least 15 minutes every day, I’ve surpassed it almost each and every day of January.

I’m currently reading a memoir called ‘Brain on Fire’ by Susannah Cahallan. I started it on Saturday and I am completely & utterly captivated by it. It’s the story of a woman who, out of the blue, began to lose her mind until she was admitted to the hospital without any idea what plagued her. She has almost no recollection of her time at the hospital, and so far her telling of her story is both terrifying and completely captivating. It reminds me of all the reasons that I had wanted to pursue Psychology in school for so long.

Watching: I’ve been trying to cut down on the amount of TV I watch, but my favorites these days include; New Girl, Big Bang Theory, Parenthood, Grey’s Anatomy, Top Chef, Happy Endings, and Once Upon a Time. Oh and Community starts back up VERY SOON and I couldn’t be more excited!

On that note, this week’s episode of Top Chef was a HUGE disappointment. SPOILER: I don’t think Kristin deserved to go home. She took full responsibility for the things that went wrong, whereas Josie has been sliding by on consistently less-than-good-quality food. Kristin has been on the top almost since she got on TC, and I think the judges made a very poor call sending her home for simply taking responsibility instead of laying it on everyone else. I’M SO ANGRY ABOUT THIS.

Listening: I’ve been re-visiting one of my high school favorites, All Time Low, since seeing them live last week! I’ve always really enjoyed their upbeat music- it’s nothing crazy life changing, although one of their songs ‘Remember Sunday’ is in my absolute ALL TIME favorite songs ever.

Also currently in my ‘on-repeat’ playlist: Ed Sheeran (was that a surprise?) I’ve been listening to his old EP’s a lot and falling in love with the music he released before he got well known. My favorites include Cold Coffee, Sofa, and Homeless. I’ve also been listening to some Bon Iver and reminiscing about the concert in September. I have a ton of other various artists in the playlist, and I’ve been adding a lot of new stuff in there that drops into my CONFRONT inbox. I love the amount of new music I listen to on a daily basis because of that job!

meanded

Needing: A little bit of willpower to really get back into schoolwork. Definitely haven’t found my groove yet. I also need to go to the bank and replace my lost debit card. I currently have no way to pay school fees, bills, or anything, until I find a convenient time to go to my branch and get a new card. This probably  needs to happen sooner rather than later! ALSO needing? More money, please. I want to be able to start saving (as my New Year’s Goals state I should be) but I just can’t quite yet without putting my bills at risk of being late. Blah.

Loving: Things I”m currently loving include sleeping in on my Monday mornings off (I purposely didn’t take a class so that I wouldn’t have to face the “Monday blues” during winter) and also, reading. I love that I’m loving reading again. Hmmm, what else. I’m loving that I have another concert coming up this week, and that I have plans to go out next weekend. I’ve been staying home a lot and feeling down because of the crappy weather, but I need to just suck it up and not act like an 80 year old grandma anymore!

Finally, I’m loving the quality time I’ve been getting with my nephew. That kid is growing up before my eyes, and at 15 months we are the best of friends. He takes my hand to play games and he enlists my help to do silly things whenever we’re together. He insists on taking pictures for Instagram with me, he loves to stay in my arms until I can’t feel them anymore, and overall this is just my favorite age ever. :)

photo (1)

That’s all I’ve got for now! I’m hoping to find some extra time in my schedule this week to catch up with school & to sit down with my goals for the year to see what I can tackle. I’ve been super lazy so far this year and I’d like to make a point of kicking the lazy away (other than Monday morning sleep-ins of course).

What’s currently going on with you?

2012 in Music

IMG_4062

2012 was an amazing year for music. Not only did some amazing albums come out, but I had the chance to attend and interview so many of my favorite musicians out there right now. My top 5 concerts below are not only some of my most memorable experiences, but 4 out of the 5 were the best interviews I did for CONFRONT Magazine this year.

I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again- I love that magazine. It started off as a neat side project to get me involved in music and writing more often, and it has now become something that I could see myself pursuing for a long time. Writing about music- combining two of my passions in one- is literally a dream come true. Interviewing some of the biggest names in the industry? That is just a really, really awesome job perk.

This week on CONFRONT, I’m sharing my top 5 albums of 2012, so I thought it was fitting to share my favorite concerts over here on the same day. 2012 was definitely one of the best in terms of working and enjoying music, and 2013 is already gearing up to be really great too. Seriously, what is life without music but a quiet existence?

#5 Of Monsters and Men

I don’t even know where to start with this band- I first heard of them a couple years ago thanks to blogger friend Dana, and from the moment I put their album on, it hasn’t left my ‘repeat’ playlist on iTunes. I can’t get enough of their music, and their live shows are just stellar. I got to interview them for CONFRONT when they were in Montreal the first time (last April) and was completely smitten over them- since then, I’ve only fallen more in love. I can’t WAIT for a second record- I hope it’ll be in 2013!

#4 The Rocket Summer

It was the first time I could ever remember TRS headlining a show in Montreal and I left the venue SO SAD that it was over. Another artist I got to interview for CONFRONT before the set, he was just as down to earth in person as he seemed- and his live performance? Beyond amazing. It’s no wonder his album made it to my top 5 of 2012.

#3 Snow Patrol

One of my all-time favorite bands, SP came back to Montreal for the first time in YEARS, and they brought Ed Sheeran along. I got to interview one of the founding members of the group beforehand for CONFRONT, and then I enjoyed hours of an absolutely amazing live show. Snow Patrol have literally never disappointed me in all the times I have seen them in concert.

#2 Bon Iver

Not only did I get to road trip to New York City for a weekend with three people who love music as much as me, but I got to attend one of the final Bon Iver concerts for the next few years at Radio City Music Hall. I always enjoyed Justin Vernon’s music, but this show just set the whole thing in stone. Absolutely  mind blowing.

#1 Ed Sheeran

If this is a surprise to anyone reading this, you don’t know me well enough yet. This 22 year old musician stole my heart nearly two years ago, and his headlining show in Montreal in September was just the cherry on top of it all… Not to mention that I got to interview him for CONFRONT Magazine. And I’m still listening to his music every single day. Definitely earned the number 1 spot!

Any great 2012 musical moments in your life?

Currently… #7

Well, I can finally say that I am done my first semester of University in business school. It was a mix of everything I expected and not what I had imagined at all. Exams were MUCH rougher than any series of assignments I had to hand in over the course of these last few stressful weeks. I learned a lot about myself along the way- what I can handle, and how to do better in the winter semester, for starters- but for now I’m happy to just spend three weeks without any worry about homework whatsoever.

With less than a week until Christmas, I’ll be spending a majority of my time at work (oh, the joy of retail at this time of year!) and shopping for gifts FINALLY, since I couldn’t do it while I was still in school. I had the misfortune of getting quite sick during finals, so I’ve also taken a lot of time just for me, catching up on movies and TV shows. It feels really nice to just be doing nothing at all, and not having an ounce of guilt about it. I should be back to my regular self in a few more days once my antibiotics are finished, and I really can’t wait. I’m so tired of being sick, even though it did give me a chance to re-watch a whole lot of Veronica Mars.

It’s been really strange not blogging, but a much needed break. Hopefully I’ll be able to spend more time around here from now on, and I thought I’d start things off with a little catch-up!

Reading: I’ve been reading the same book for weeks. It’s called Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares. It’s a teen book that takes place around the holidays, but I haven’t had much time to really get into it. Actually I just haven’t really felt like reading, no matter how hard I try. Hoping to finish it soon, though.

Listening: I’m back on another Ed Sheeran kick. Although let’s be honest, that didn’t really go anywhere. I found a bunch of his older songs from before he was signed to a label, and it’s made me fall in love with him all over again. I’ve also been listening to an album called ‘I Opened My Heart to Caustic Things’ by another UK artist, a band called Maycomb. I reviewed the album for CONFRONT Magazine, feel free to check it out! Spoiler: they’re awesome.

Watching: I kind of mentioned that above, but I’ve been in total Veronica Mars mode. I’ve re-watched a season in a half in about 4 days. I’ve seen each episode at least half a dozen times, but it never gets old. I not-so-secretly aspire to be as badass as Veronica one day, and also I want her boyfriend, Logan. Swoooooooooon Jason Dohring. My favorite TV bad boy.

Needing: To not be sick anymore (for good!), to not have to suffer antibiotic side effects, to find the will and energy to finally clean my room, and more time in the day to do my own Christmas shopping, instead of helping customers 8 hours a day with theirs. Sigh.

Loving: Two words: Christmas. Break. Okay a few more words… A full on time-to-give-my-poor-brain-a-break Christmas break. I seriously need this time to find the energy to get through another 4 months of this insanity in January!

Also loving? The fact that I have so much more time for my family & especially to see my nephew. He’s changed and grown so much in the last couple months, and at just over 14 months now (CRYING!) he’s officially walking, chatting me up a little storm, and blowing me kisses when he realizes I’m leaving.

Blowing kisses at the camera, at me, at basically anything at all… Ha:)

That’s all I’ve got! Being sick and consumed with schoolwork has definitely left very little room for interesting things to happen… But I don’t mind so much. A little bit of relaxing after the crazy 4 months I just had will be VERY GOOD for me!

& how have you been all this time?!

On… The best part about music

When I was 16, I started going to concerts. I don’t know what it was about seeing live shows that attracted me even as a teenager, but I could never get enough of them. A favorite band was coming through my city? I needed to be there. Some of my favorite memories in high school are rocking out and meeting a favorite artist with my best friends. I wouldn’t change that for the world.

Now that I’m older, that hasn’t changed one bit. Wherever I am in the world, I’m always looking for the next show I can go to. When I’m traveling, I will always look up my favorite musicians to see if they’ll be nearby when I’m around. I have a lot of trouble passing up a good show in my home city. But the BEST part about music & live shows?

The road trips that get planned JUST FOR the love of music.

The number of pictures we have like this is crazy. But I wouldn’t change it for the world!

Especially in the last few years, I’ve had the most unforgettable  music memories by packing a car up with some food and some best friends, and driving to a city for a concert. I hope it’s something I’m always able to do, but as long as I’m young enough and still able to? I’ll keep road tripping for concerts.

Toronto in 2009 with two of my favorite girls. This is still one of my favorite days and road trips so far <3

Toronto in August 2010 for Something Corporate

Burlington in 2011 for Jimmy Eat World

New York City in 2012 for Bon Iver

I’m so lucky to have so many friends that are in love with music as much as I am. I’ve been able to grow up surrounded with something I love, and through all of it I’ve been able to get work in the music industry too. Not only do I get to manage a music magazine (staffed with the most amazing people) with one of my best friends, but this girl is always up for a road trip if it means music, long car rides & some good company.

When she suggested that we spend a long weekend in Toronto this coming June for Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, I don’t think I could have said “YES” any quicker. One of my favorite musicians, and the worlds’ cutest country singer… PLUS A WEEKEND in one of my absolute favorite Canadian cities? Next to traveling the world, road tripping for concerts is my favorite thing to do ever.

More of this in 2013? Yes please :)

We’re getting ready to buy tickets in the next couple weeks, and I’m already counting down the months until we GO. I love knowing that I have fun plans to look forward to next year. I know there will be so many more good shows and road trips, but this one? I know this one is going to be especially awesome.

Are you a crazy concert go-er like I am? What’s your favorite part?

Currently… #6

Currently wishing I was back in Cinque Terre, Italy. I’m missing traveling so much these days <3

Reading

- I’ve been reading at a VERY slow pace because of school (and buying way too many books, if I’m being honest). Right now I’m just over halfway through The Kill Order by James Dashner. I’m such a big fan of this author, but I must admit I’m not so crazy about this one. We’ll see how it ends though!

Listening

- I have SO much music on repeat right now. Some of my favorites include the new Ellie Goulding album ‘Halcyon’ as well as the Imagine Dragons album ‘Night Visions’… It’s so, so good! I listened to Imagine Dragons on my way home from New York City in September and have been in love ever since. I also can’t get enough of the new Ed Sheeran/Taylor Swift song. I’ve posted about it everywhere, so I figured one more place couldn’t hurt! Seriously though, Ed Sheeran’s voice completely slays me. I can’t wait for him to announce a new record.

- I’m also still totally head over heels for The Lumineers. I’ve been listening to their song ‘Stubborn Love’ for months now, and it hasn’t gotten old to me one bit. Finally, I’ve got the latest Owl City record playing… Oh and GUESS WHAT. He just announced a date here in Montreal opening up for Maroon 5! I absolutely cannot wait for that show.

Watching

- Fall is my favorite season for TV! So many of my favorites are back: Dexter (which I always seem to be a little bit behind in), Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, HAPPY ENDINGS and Grey’s Anatomy. Although am I alone in thinking that Grey’s is a little bit weird this season? Not liking it very much so far… I hope it picks up a little! I’m also kind of sad that Community was pushed back to an ‘unknown’ date. I must admit I kind of loved the Troy & Abed clip that went up because of it:

Needing

- More hours in a day, but that never changes. I’ve been so stressed with school, although luckily I’ve got some breathing room coming in another week or so… Kind of. Basically it’s going to be a break just to get back on track with work, although it won’t be a “break” in terms of not having anything to do. This semester has picked up like CRAZY and my workload has been terrifying. I would love a few extra hours of sleep, so more hours in a day would be great!

- Also? MORE TRAVEL IN MY LIFE. Any possibilities for traveling are in such a distant future for me, and that just breaks my heart.

Avoiding

- I was avoiding my credit card statement for quite a while, but I finally accepted that it was getting out of hand and I started officially taking care of it (with a little push from a good friend). I really need to get my butt into gear and save again. I hate how much my savings are dwindling. HATE.

Loving

- I must admit that despite all my moaning and groaning, I’m loving school. I love going in, going to class, seeing friends & the CASA Cares family, taking part in events, and just the whole atmosphere. It’s been so great since getting involved, and I’ve had SO much fun putting charity events together with the CASA Cares crew so far. And- we’re only just getting started! It’s been such a fun 2 months. I can’t wait for the rest of the school year.

I’ve also taken up the job of resident blogger on the CASA Cares website, you can always stop by over there and see what we’re up to!

September: Little Moments

Although I took a break from writing down little moments this summer while I traveled, I got right back to it for the month of September! I really thought I’d have trouble adjusting to life back home after two months of traveling, but it wasn’t too hard with all the great little things I ended up doing (I DO still miss it though, I am a travel bug!). I must admit that for a month of getting back to school & having to say ‘no’ to a LOT of social plans, I still had a really great month and did so many things that I had forgotten about!

1- Hanging out with one of my best friends after being in Europe for so long & getting a 2 month late (BUT SO AWESOME) birthday gift from her!

2- Pre-ordered the new JK Rowling book

3- Planning my Fall TV schedule… So many good shows are starting up again soon, YAY :)

4- Early morning shift that flew by!

5- Afternoon coffee date after my first class

6- Late night texting with a good friend to cheer me up

7- Coffee date with two friends I don’t get to see nearly enough, followed by spontaneous dinner at another friends’ house!

8- Skyping with Stephany!! in the morning followed by the Jason Mraz concert at night

9- Finishing the Great Harry Potter Summer Re-Read <3

10- Spending time with my gorgeous nephew playing games. He’s getting SO BIG!

11- Having a cupcake for dinner- sometimes that’s really all a girl needs :)

12- Interviewing Benny from The Gaslight Anthem for CONFRONT Magazine

13- Last work day of a hectic week

14- A delightfully relaxing morning off followed by an awesome CASA Cares meeting & a best friends’ birthday party celebrations!

15- Smart Chicks Kick It book tour at work! Got to meet and hang out with a ton of awesome female teen authors. Love my job the most on days like today!

16- Catching up with homework on a day off and realizing I’m totally happy about it. FINALLY a semester I am happy to be taking part in.

17- My Ed Sheeran interview gets confirmed AND I find out Of Monsters and Men are planning a return to Montreal in just a few months!

18- Interviewing Ed Sheeran and his opening act Selah Sue, followed by an absolutely mind-blowing concert. Seriously love days like today.

19- Getting a new piercing, my 10th and probably final one!

20- CASA Cares bake sale benefiting the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, and what a success! So proud of my team <3

21- A day spent in the car with three lovely people driving to NEW YORK CITY for the weekend!!

22- Full day spent exploring beautiful NYC, my home away from home, followed by the Bon Iver concert. SO AMAZING.

23- Lunch at Friendly’s on our way home from NYC, and a gorgeous day for road tripping overall. I love long car rides!

24- Spontaneous day off to catch up and relax. Sooooo needed after a hectic, sleepless weekend

25- Jack’s Mannequin release ONE FINAL SONG as a thank you to fans. Gonna miss them so much <3

26- Taking advantage of the lovely Fall weather and taking a walk downtown for lunch on break from class

27- Surprise visit for the FIRST TIME from my nephew at work! Plus, he won the hearts of a bunch of the VP’s of the company, ha :)

28- Spent a huge part of the day sitting on the couch, blaring Ed Sheeran’s live iTunes festival & writing my article for CONRONT. Nothing in my life has felt less like a job than that. I wish I could call that work every single day!

29- Apple picking with the family on yet another beautiful Fall day. Apple pie and hot chocolates to warm up in the late afternoon with everyone <3

30- CIBC 5K Run for the Cure with CASA Cares- we raised over 4,000$ as a team for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation! Such a satisfying morning followed by brunch with everyone afterwards.

&& how was YOUR month of September? Any good little moments?
